Out of the mouth of babes

As we were getting out of the car yesterday this is what I heard from my oldest child.

"I'm being like a mommy, tired and angry."

(sigh)

About 20 minutes later (and lots of worrying about her statement) I asked her what she thought mothers were like. She smiled and said, "precious and beautiful". (Ahhh, feeling much better.)

Caroline

Caroline: Dad, are the Philistines mean?
Dad: Yes.
Caroline: Oh

Updates

The girls have all had their well child checks (as well as some other trips to the doctor's office). I feel as if Dr. Sandoval and I are very close friends. We see each other at least once a week (or at least it feels that way).

Here are the girls' stats.
Caroline is 48 inches tall (95%) and 42.4 lbs (75%)
Emily is 40 1/2 inches tall (95%) and 38 lbs (95%)
P-Cat is 27 1/2 inches tall (50%) and 19.5 lbs (65%)

Please pray for little P-Cat. We are taking her to an eye doctor to look at her clogged tear duct. She will probably have to have surgery to open it up. I am not looking forward to that.

Other than that, the girls are doing well and keeping me very busy.

P-Cat

We took P-Cat to the doctor on Monday to get her weight checked. She is growing like a weed and back up to the 50th percentile. She weighed in at 16 lbs and 8 oz. I think all the rice cereal and bananas is chunking her up! She loves them. My favorite part of feeding her is hearing the passionate cry of sadness when I show her the empty bowl.

Caroline and Emily have their well-child checks on the 30th. I will post updates on them then.

Emily

What can I say. Emily is my child that charms me and also bring me to my knees in prayer. There are several issues in her life that God is using to bring me closer to Himself and to see how much I want things my way and in my timing. One of the biggest issues is potty training. Emily is refusing to poop in the potty. We have tried so many things to entice her towards pooping in the potty rather than her pants (or swimsuit). We have also taken things away. Things that I thought were very dear to her heart. She seems to adjust quite happily to the loss each time it happens and tells me very sweetly how she will get it back when she poops on the potty.
Today, I cleaned her up twice from a poopy accident. The second time that it happened, we were talking about her consequences. I listed all the things that she could not have until she started pooping in the potty...princess dresses, dress-up shoes, nightgowns, and sweets. She then looked up at me with her big brown eyes and said, "what about hugs?" I melted.

Happy Birthday Caroline

Friday was Caroline's 5th birthday. This has been a long awaited birthday for her and all day Friday she told everyone that she met, "I'm five".
Her day started with a breakfast of cinnamon rolls with pink icing and the kitchen decorated with princess decor. I like to spread the birthday fun all through the day, so she opened a couple of presents at breakfast with the promise of more to come throughout the day. She chose Chic-Fil-A for her birthday lunch. Then we came home for cake and ice cream. I thought that she would want a pink cake with pink frosting, but she informed me that she wanted chocolate cake and chocolate frosting with chocolate ice cream (a girl after my own heart). She wanted everything to be the color of Belle's hair (for those of you not up on your princesses, Belle is the princess from Beauty and the Beast). After cake and candles we got to the gifts. Wow, did her eyes light up with each one. Emily was also very helpful in welcoming each new gift. Now she really can't wait for her birthday!
Thanks to Gigi and Big Daddy and Mimi and Daddy Mac and all our aunts and uncles for really fun birthday gifts.
I can't believe that my first baby is 5 years old. The time has gone so fast. Thank you Jesus for entrusting this precious little life to us. Give us wisdom and grace to shepherd her well and to point her to dependence on You.

Caroline and God

On Saturday I was watching the news coverage on the Pope's visit to the United States. Caroline came into the room and started watching with me. When the Pope came on the screen she pointed to him and asked, "Is that God?"
I was so shocked. Being the good reformed Mom that I am, I quoted the Children's Catechism. "God is a spirit and has not a body like man." I also explained that the Pope was an important man in the Catholic church. I don't think that Caroline was all that impressed.

Perry Catherine

Today Perry Catherine is 6 months old. The time has gone way too fast. She is such a fun and cuddly baby. We are all enjoying her so much.

I took P-Cat (Perry Catherine's nickname) for her wellbaby visit today. Here are her stats. She weighs 14 lbs and 8 oz (25%) and is 25 1/2 inches tall (50%). Her head is 42 cm (50%). The doctor wants to see her back in a month to check her weight. Hopefully she will beef up a little in the next few weeks!

Ballet

Emily's dream is finally coming true. She has spent 2 years going to Caroline's ballet class and waiting while her sister went off to dance. This week Emily will be going into the class with Caroline. She is finally old enough to be a dancer and not just a spectator. She is sooooo excited. Class does not start until Monday, but she already has on her ballet shoes and leotard. I love the proud and expectant look on her face. I can tell that she can't wait to show her teacher, Miss Rosie how good she already is at ballet.

As excited as I am for Emily I do have some reservations. Caroline and Emily will be in the same class. That could be a good thing or a very bad thing. Caroline may feel the need to instruct Emily (since of course she knows what to do after taking for 2 years) and Emily may feel the need to loudly resist. Miss Rosie may be in for a very exciting class. I am praying for a fun experience for all.

Teeth and Such

I thought that I would give a few updates.
Perry Catherine is now 5 months old. I can't believe how fast the time is going. She is such a happy little girl. On Monday I noticed that she had 2 teeth buds poking through her lower gums. My little baby has teeth now! She is also starting rice cereal this week. Her face is hilarious when I put the cereal in her mouth. It does not seem like she likes it too much. Next week I'll put a little apple juice in it to sweeten it! P-Cat (her nickname from her sisters) has found her voice too! Now I have 3 very vocal girls. She likes to squeal a lot.

Emily is almost 3, but talks like she is about 10. She likes to explain everything that she is doing as she is doing it. Her favorite things to wear are dresses and "Princess Clothes". She is also our little dancer. One of my favorite things is to watch her dance when she doesn't think that I am looking.

Caroline is almost 5. Caroline is very in to drawing and painting right now. This morning I noticed that she was using crayons to draw a picture and then using watercolor paints to paint it. I have no artistic ability, so I am quite impressed. I am just hoping that she won't ask me to draw any more horses (mine look like mice with long legs). We are also reading the Little House on the Prairie books together. It has been really fun to share some of my favorite childhood stories with Caroline.

I am enjoying having 3 precious little girls. The days are very full, but I am learning and growing.

Authority

John was talking with Caroline and Emily tonight about authority, namely his authority over them.
John: Caroline, who has authority over this family?
Caroline: Mommy!
John: No, let's try again. Who has authority over this family?
Caroline: Umm, God!
John: Well, yes. Who has authority over Mommy?
Caroline: (Thinks for a few seconds) The Church.

I am glad to know that Caroline is comfortable with the Church's authority in our lives. I just need to talk more about Daddy's role as head of our family.

Happy Birthday John

Thursday was John's 31st birthday. The girls and I had been greatly anticipating this day. I asked the girls what to get Daddy for his birthday and they quickly said, "Spiderman things". Because of course Daddy would want Spiderman things since he is a boy. We picked out stuff for a Spiderman party and cake. They were so excited. John's parents also came to visit, so we had a fun group for John's party.

We went to Texas Cattle Co for dinner. The girls had a blast. Emily especially enjoyed herself. She got to order her food and drink herself and her drink came in a cup with out a lid (Mommy and Daddy were a little nervous). She was entertained for the entire dinner with that cup. It was only at the very end that she spilled her drink on Daddy Mac. She then looked at him with great surprise and said, "What is that on your shirt?"

After dinner, we came home for chocolate cake and icecream. John loved his Spiderman cake and party decorations. Emily loved the cake and was covered from head to toe in chocolate.

We ended our evening by watching the Disney movie, Enchanted. We enjoyed watching Caroline and Emily sing and dance along with the movie. I think that Giselle is their new favorite princess. Caroline is already quoting lots of lines from the movie!

A Poop Story

Anyone who knows our family knows that we like a good poop story. Well, we had one happen on Saturday. John and I took the girls to Chick-Fil-a for lunch. They love going there and love to play on the playground. As I was getting dressed that morning I wondered if I was foolishly wearing a skirt, because of the great possibility that I would be climbing up into the playground at some point to get Emily. I told myself that Emily would be fine today.

We got to Chick-Fil-a and enjoyed eating our lunch. The girls played quite happily on the playground while John and I talked with friends who had met us there for lunch also. I noticed that I had not seen Emily come down the slide in a long time. John went to check on her and said that she was playing near the top. That should have been my warning sign. When Emily doesn't make frequent appearances that means trouble. When it was time to leave, John went to get the girls off of the playground. He came back with only Caroline and said that Emily was stuck at the top and couldn't get down by herself. The way he looked at me communicated that he felt I was the best parent to climb in and get her. I was really wishing that I had not worn a short skirt. I climbed up to the top of the playground. The parents watching their children probably got to see more than they bargained for. Oh the embarassing things you will do for your children. When I finally got to Emily she was crying and very pitiful. I noticed that her pull-up needed adjusting. That really means that it had crept up into her little behind. I reached in to pull it out and pulled out two thumbs covered in poop!!!!!!!!!! I don't consider myself a squeemish mom, but poop on my hands makes me a little crazy. I crawled to where I could see the other parents and pointed to one older lady with white hair and said, "You, open the door and call for my husband, John Weaver. Tell him that I need him to bring me some wipes." She quickly did my bidding and John brought me the wipes. I was able to get Emily down from the playground and into the bathroom where I proceeded to clean her up from one of the messiest pull-ups I've seen. I told her that I was not happy with her. She then said, "Are you proud of me?" What do you say?

I have learned that I will never wear a skirt to Chick-Fil-a and to check on Emily every five minutes.

Catechism

Last night I was asking the girls questions out of the Children's Catechism. I got to the question, What did God give Adam and Eve besides bodies? My 2 1/2 year old said. "apples". (The answer is, He gave them spirits that would last forever.) I guess that we have talked more about eating the forbidden fruit than about eternity.

This same daughter (Emily) and I were reading books in her room. Caroline came in and listened for a while and then left and closed the door. Emily started to scream and get very anxious. I told her that there was no reason to get upset, because I was with her. I had authority over Caroline and could open the door for her. It seemed so silly that she would be so distraught

My First Post

I love reading other people's blogs, so I guess that it is high time that I started one of my own. Thank you Beth for getting me set up. Hopefully I will faithfully write about the happenings in our family. I also hope to post some pictures soon.

Today's funny quote:
As we were watching a Baby Einstein with baby P-Cat a picture of a toy gorilla appeared. My oldest daughter asked me if that was a granilla (she also calls granola bars granilla bars).

Hello Blog World

We are excited to announce that we will be entering the Blogging world. check back later for more posts:)
